Four Benefits of Holistic Veterinarian Services & Care

This post is written by our holistic veterinarian at "I and love and you", Dr. Angie Krause, DVM, CVA, CCRT

As a holistic veterinarian, I incorporate alternative therapies with my traditional medical training. This is my preferred way of practice, as I can offer my patients the best of both worlds. If you have any holistic or natural leanings, you should consider adding a holistic vet to your pet’s medical team.

Here are four advantages of hiring a holistic veterinarian:

  1. We are open! Want to talk about your pet’s energy, emotions, and the last session you had with your animal communicator? We will listen without an inner eye roll. You can also tell us about your gut feelings and hunches about what might be going on with your pet. Most holistic veterinarians believe in the mind-body connection and will be happy to incorporate your pet’s mental/emotional health into their treatment plan. We are also open to exploring natural and alternative treatments, as long as they are safe for your pet.
  2. Connection. Holistic veterinarians tend to be introverted empaths. We thrive on individual connection and genuinely want to get to know both you and your pet. We will help you sort through a lot of information and give you more personalized recommendations. Our practices are usually smaller and we will be able to spend more time with you and your pet.
  3. More treatment options. In my experience, more options can mean better outcomes for my patients. When natural remedies, like acupuncture and herbs, can be incorporated into my patient’s treatment protocols, I can use less pharmaceuticals. Less pharmaceuticals can often mean fewer side effects. This is especially true when controlling pain. When I have more treatment options, I have a better chance for success if my patients don’t respond to my initial treatment plan.
  4. Western Diagnostics & Medicine. If your holistic veterinarian doesn’t offer Western diagnostics and therapies, find a traditional veterinarian to add to your team. Traditional diagnostics, surgery, and pharmaceuticals can be life changing for pets. I wouldn’t want to practice without them! Empower yourself with the knowledge about the available traditional therapies to make the best decision for your pet.

Traditional and alternative therapies are not mutually exclusive and are best used together! Do you work with a holistic veterinarian? Tell me why you love it by leaving a comment below!
